If you still haven't received your email you can get it re-sent to you by visiting the Recover License page. Just enter the email address you used to purchase the license and optionally the time from your PayPal receipt. We will automatically resend your license email to you and show it in the browser if you can enter your PayPal receipt time too.

We will send you two reminnder emails to let you know that you need to renew your license, about 30 days before it runs out and then about 7 days before it runs out. You can renew your license by just buying a new one once you have received one of the reminder emails. You don't loose out by renewing early, since when you renew we will start the year for the new license from the expiry date of the old license.

A more accurate Polar alignment will be evident in your autoguiding graph, and in your individual image frames. The fine-tuning I made to my telescope mount made a difference in my autoguiding graph. I will be using SharpCap for all of my future astrophotography imaging sessions to confirm the accuracy of my Polar Alignment.

Basically, SharpCap takes two pictures near the pole and analyzes them to judge the accuracy of your Polar Alignment. The Altair Starwave 60mm guide scope pictured above has a focal length of mm, which is in the sweet spot for this Polar Alignment process. I found the process to be quite easy to understand and complete my first time through.

The only hiccup I had was when I tried to use my primary imaging camera through the telescope to plate solve the images. The magnification of the long mm focal length of my ED was way too much to make any fine adjustments.

I later discovered that using my guide camera and guide scope was a much better option for using Polar Alignment in SharpCap. A guide scope in the 50mmmm range has the ideal focal length for this process.

SharpCap explains that a focal length of about mm works best. My current autoguiding setup is the perfect combo for the SharpCap Polar Alignment process. I currently use the GPCAM2 as an autoguider, but it also makes for a fantastic stand alone planetary or deep-sky camera.

I used my autoguiding camera and guide scope to capture the recommended field of view for this process. With all of these confirmed, you are ready to take the first step. After clicking on Polar Alignment, SharpCap will try to plate solve the image coming from your guide camera. As long as you are close enough to the North celestial pole, and your field of view is sufficient, SharpCap will plate solve the image through your camera.

Make sure you use a long enough exposure for your camera to pick up at least 15 stars. Under the Star Detection heading, increase the Noise Reduction value if your camera is picking up hot pixels and confusing them for stars.

The yellow boxes represent the stars used to plate solve the image. Unlock the RA clutch on your telescope mount, and rotate it a full 90 degrees. SharpCap will automatically continue to snap image frames and attempt to plate solve the new image. Once it confirms that the image has been rotated 90 degrees, it knows the exact position your mount is rotating at.

The General tab contains a variety of settings that are divided into four groups — Startup, Display, Saving and Misc. This option is checked by default. The Tip of the Day appears when SharpCap is started but can be disabled for future start-ups here or when SharpCap starts. When set, SharpCap will automatically reconnect to the last used camera at start-up.

If set, this setting can be overridden by holding down the Control key when starting SharpCap, which will skip opening a camera at start-up. This setting is enabled by default. When set, SharpCap will save the current settings of each camera when you close the camera or close SharpCap and restore those settings the next time the camera is opened.

This setting is checked by default. Selecting this option causes SharpCap to display in a dark colour scheme which is better for night-time use. This option is unchecked by default.

Normal vision day colours. Night vision colours. Use night vision to preserve dark adaptation of the eyes during a capture session if intending to observe visually.

Setting this option to a larger value with result in the Auto Stretch buttons brightening the darker regions of the image more strongly. You can adjust this option until the Auto Stretch buttons give results that suit your tastes. When this option is checked, SharpCap will save a text file containing all the camera settings alongside the capture file each time a new capture is started.

This file is useful to check the settings used for particular images at a later date. This option is enabled by default. This option will set the Output Format control into Auto mode when a camera is opened.

When the Output Format is in Auto mode a compatible video format will be chosen automatically for exposure times of less than 5s and a compatible still file format for exposure times of more than 5s. If possible, the preferred formats will be used providing they are compatible with the camera settings in use. This option is off by default and should only be enabled for special use cases where post-processing software has issues with pre-stretched images.

If in doubt, do not turn this option on. This is desirable because without applying this stretch the saved images would appear very dark and would all require brightening before the image could be seen properly. However, some image processing software particularly photometry software cannot process such pre-stretched images correctly. AVI is the default video format.SharpCap supports Basler cameras for high speed capture and also provides a unique LX mode with certain models that allows exposures beyond the normal limits of the camera.

SharpCap does not yet support Spinnaker cameras. SharpCap from version 3. CCD models may also work.

There are a vast number of webcams and frame grabbers on the market. In any case, the controls that are available in SharpCap are determined by the driver — SharpCap just shows the controls that the driver makes available.
